2004 The National Hockey League suspended Rangers captain Mark Messier for two games Monday for spearing an opponent in a game over the weekend. Messier will have to sit out the next two games after he speared a Penguins defenseman in a game in Pittsburgh on Sunday. The Penguin player had cross-checked Messier moments earlier. Messier was ejected during the Rangers’ 4-3 overtime loss. The 43-year-old Messier, currently in his 25th NHL season, is the second-leading scorer in league history. |
